Artwork Preparation Guide

Everything you need to know about preparing your artwork for custom sign printing. Follow these guidelines for the best results.

Accepted File Formats

The format of your artwork directly impacts print quality. Here's what we accept:

Best

Vector Files (Preferred)

.AI, .EPS, .SVG, .PDF

Scalable to any size without quality loss. Ideal for logos and text.

Good

High-Resolution Raster

.PSD, .TIFF, .PNG

Must be 300 DPI or higher at final print size.

Poor

Web Images

.JPG, .GIF, .PNG (low-res)

Not recommended. Usually too low resolution for print.

Artwork Do's & Don'ts

Do

  • Provide vector files whenever possible
  • Include all fonts (outlined or embedded)
  • Use CMYK color mode for print
  • Submit files at actual print size
  • Include bleed area if design goes to edge
  • Convert text to outlines/curves
  • Embed all linked images

Don't

  • Don't use low-resolution images from websites
  • Don't stretch or distort your logo
  • Don't use hairline strokes (less than 0.5pt)
  • Don't use RGB or Pantone without conversion
  • Don't submit Word or PowerPoint files
  • Don't use gradients for small text

Resolution Requirements

For raster images (photos, non-vector graphics), resolution is critical. Low-resolution images will appear pixelated when printed.

300 DPI or Higher

At final print size. This is the standard for professional print quality.

150-299 DPI

May be acceptable for large signs viewed from a distance.

Under 150 DPI

Not recommended. Will likely result in visible pixelation.

Quick Resolution Check

To check your image resolution: Open the image properties and look for dimensions in pixels. Divide by your desired print size in inches.

Example:

Image: 3000 x 2000 pixels

Print size: 10" x 6.67"

Resolution: 300 DPI ✓

Color Tips

CMYK for Print

Convert all colors to CMYK color mode. RGB colors may shift when printed.

Pantone Matching

For exact color matching, provide Pantone (PMS) color numbers.

Rich Black

For deep blacks, use C:40 M:40 Y:40 K:100 instead of K:100 alone.

Color Count

More colors = higher cost. Simplify where possible to save money.
